Track Update #8

Darts -
I meant to send this out earlier, but better late than never I guess. I am still on a high from the Davis Invitational. I want to thank each of the Davis athletes for the work they put in to making the meet successful. I am still receiving compliments on how well you all did putting the meet on. I was proud because we put a lot of work into it - but mostly because you were all so helpful and you all had great attitudes even with all the work I was asking you to do. As I said in the meeting after the Invite - if the season were to end today, I would be satisfied with what we have accomplished - but I am glad that the season is not ending yet. There were a lot of prs from our team and from the other teams that came - which is exactly what our goal was. We had one state record (girls 5A hurdles) and 1 national leading mark (Tiffany Hellstrom from Bonneville in the Javelin - 151'09). I also want to thank the parents for their support in being volunteers and sponsors. It is nice to have parents who are always so willing to help and be part of the program. At times like this I am proud to be part of this program, and grateful that so many of you are willing to sacrifice for the TEAM. A special thanks to Coach West, Coach Parrish, Clayton Wilson, Jeff Agnello, Brad Anderson, Roger Buhrley, Jay Welk, Robbie Allred, Alex Hill, the Spragues, John Lindgren, the Browns, the Wildings, Kim Oram, Steve Petty, Mrs. Johnson (Eric's mom), Mountain Land Physical Therapy, Seth Frischknecht, Leslee Hyer Wilson, Renee Frisbee, Allison Dunford, and all others who put time in to help us.
I don't have time to go through all of our outstanding performances, but for full results you can go to www.runnercard.com There were no team scores, but we would have done very well on both sides.
The region championships are only 5 days away and the state championships are 2 weeks from today. I am asking each of you to give your all through the rest of the season. We will continue to work out together after the region meet - even if you are not running at state. Stay focused, stay humble, and keep bringing energy and enthusiasm to our final meets and our final workouts. Set some final goals for the region and state meets, and give your all to accomplish them. We have put some great work in up to this point, and we are ready to finish strong.
Athletes of the Week:
Derek Gallacher - winner of the open 800 - big pr (2:02)
Ryan Avery - 1st in invited 4 x 100, 2nd in invited long jump, 2nd in invited 100m - all season bests
Madi Holt - ran 4 events all with prs - stepped up at the last minute to run the invited medley
Kristin Burton - threw over 90 in the discus for the first time
The rest of the season:
May 2: BYU Invite, Provo - 8:00am
May 6-7: Region Championships, Syracuse High School - 3:30 pm
May 12: Sophomore Region, Fremont High School - 3:00 pm
May 15-16: State Championships, BYU - 8:00 am
We also have 2 junior high meets to host over the next 2 weeks. I will be giving you some information regarding those meets.
Final thing - if any of you would like to buy Davis track t-shirts (the gray team ones), we still have quite a few left that we need to sell. They are still only $5 - you can pay in the office and pick them up from me or Coach West.
Thanks for everything -
Coach Talley
