Track Update #2

Davis Track Update - March 15, 2009

ALUMNI MEET
It was an exciting start to the season at the Alumni Meet on Friday. We didn’t realize it at the time (because we weren’t looking that closely at the scores) but the team competition came down to the 8 x 400 relay - the final event. The senior class pulled off the win over the alumni team 169 to 162, with 3 senior relay teams scoring. It was awesome to see so many of the alumni competing with our current Darts. Many of the athletes who came to compete are current college athletes, and it gave the TEAM a great chance to run, jump, and throw with Davis legends.
The alumni were well represented in the field events with former athlete and coach Robbie Allred taking 1st in the discus and 5th in the shot put. Bryce Hall finished 1st in the shot put and 2nd in the discus. Ryan Spencer finished 2nd in the shot put and 4th in the discus. In the javelin, Matt Daley, Chris Rocha, and Tandin Chapman finished 1-3-5. Jordan Stuart, Jeff Agnello, and Rob White finished 1-2-3 in the pole vault. Cam Simonsen was 2nd in the long jump. And current coach Clay Wilson won the high jump and finished 5th in the long jump. On the girls side, the alumni had strong performances in the throws, with Shannon Prince, Krista Larson, and Allison Dunford finishing 1-2-3 in the discus and the shot put. And Leslee (Hyer) Wilson and Jordan Harris went 1-2 in the javelin.
We also had some famous alumni show up to race on the track. Jace Nye and Josh Adams finished 1-2 in a strong race in the 1600m. It seemed like old times watching Natalie Haws run with Candace Eddy in the 1600. Kristin Billings, now a freshman at Weber State, looked really strong in the 100 and 200 with 2 first place finishes. Shawn Webb showed his strength winning the 110 hurdles. Jami Dixon won the 800 and the 3200 - with times close to her high school prs. Cam Simonsen showed he still has some speed placing in the 100 and 200. And Jake Thompson scored in the 1600 and outkicked his younger brother Luke in the 400m dash. There were also appeances from alumni Chris Hock, Josh Tyndall, Mike Jones, Bryce Larsen, Javier Outeiro, Lauren Simonsen, Lindsey (Scott) Granstaff, Loren Storey, Allison (Payne) Thompson, and Corrine (Smith) Johnson Altogether, it was an fun time watching the alumni compete, and a great opportunity for our athletes to enjoy the presence of some of the all-time greats.
For our current athletes, we were excited about the efforts, the leadership, and the enthusiasm of the TEAM. We saw a lot of improvement from the past two years for our juniors and seniors, and we saw a lot of promising performances for our first year athletes. It looks to be a good season, we just need to continue the hard work and commitment.
Thanks to all those that helped out and supported the TEAM. Complete results can be found at: www.darttrack.blogspot.com.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
It is difficult to chose athletes of the week this early, but we have chosen Devin Lang for his performance in the 800m (2:00.8), Kelsey Datwyler for her sprint prs and her win in the long jump, and Coach Clayton Wilson for leading the alumni team to a near upset victory and for handing it to the athletes he is coaching in the high jump.
