Despite some strong winds and the rain and cold in Logan yesterday, we still put together a very good TEAM performance at the Logan Grizzly Invitational. It definitely took some mental and physical toughness to get PRs or season bests. I was very impressed with the way our TEAM stayed positive throughout the long day, and we managed to come away with two first place finishes. The boys finished with 155 points - almost double 2nd place - and the girls scored 130 points - also nearly double 2nd place, with more than 30 teams entered in the meet. Our top scoring events were the boys pole vault (24), boys 800m (21), boys shot put (14), girls 3200m (18), and the girls throwing events (37). We also scored a lot of our points from relays - boys (31) and girls (24). Full results can be found at http://www.runnercard.com/runner/data/167045/4716/Result/grizzly%202013%20results.pdf - Our top performances came from Bailey Carling (4th in the 100m in 12.77, 5th in the 200m in 26.86); Seth Fortin (2nd in the 100m in 11.16); Trevor Leavitt (1st in the 400m in 49.94, 2nd in the 200m in 22.38); Kami Dixon (1st in the 800m in 2:23); Skylar Williams (1st in the 800m in 1:57); Preston Johnson (3rd in the 800m in 1:58); Ellie Child (1st in the 3200m in 11:13); Christine Van Brocklin (3rd in the 100m Hurdles in 15.47, 3rd in the 300m Hurdles in 47.22); Kendall Sargent (1st in the javelin in 110'00); Natalie Mecham (3rd in the javelin in 105'03); Jessica Richardson (2nd in the shot put with 36', 4th in the discus with 108'); Kaylee Brown (2nd in the discus with 111'); Ben Bracken (1st in the shot put with 53' and 1st in the discus with 148'); Sam Matina (4th in the shot put with 47'); Jeff Whittaker (2nd in the javelin with 165'); Andrew Tyndall (1st in the pole vault with 13'06); Trace Arbon (2nd in the pole vault with 13'06); Korbin Birrell (4th in the pole vault with 12'06 - state qualifying); Ryan Boyd (4th in the triple jump); and Hannah Carattini (4th in the triple jump).
It was definitely a TEAM effort. I saw us come together through a little bit of adversity, and I think we need to continue to do so over our next 4 weeks as we prepare for the State Championships. In everything we do, we need to be a TEAM - the practices, the dual meets, the Davis Invite, BYU and the Region Championships. Please continue to be committed to being your best and to making your TEAM something great.
