Davis Track Update

Darts -
First of all, I wanted to thank everyone who helped us to find sponsors for the Davis Invitational. Because of your efforts, we raised a record $5,200 in sponsors. It is great to have so much support, and it allows us to continue to have some of the nicest track equipment in Utah. A special thanks goes to Josh Ward, Alex White, Tom Moncur, and J.R. Oldham for finding more than $800 in sponsors between them.
I also wanted to thank those of you who helped with the Junior High Meet on Thursday. Those meets are a lot of work - but our TEAM did a great job putting it on. We will have a party at the end of the 3rd Junior High Meet (District Championships) to tell you all thanks for helping at those meets.
The only meet we had this past week was the dual meet at Layton. Although it was another cold, windy day, we still had some season best performances, and I was still pleased with the attitude and the toughness that many of you showed. I have attached the results from the meet. There are a few minor errors, but I think that things are correct for the most part. If you see something that looks wrong, please let me know and I will try to find out your correct mark.
We also had a few athletes compete at the Woods Cross Invitational on Friday night - congrats to Kami Dixon for qualifying for state in the 800m (2:21), and to Alex Hedquist (9:31) and Andrew Aposhian (9:35) for qualifying for state in the 3200m.

Northridge @ Davis - Wednesday, April 24: We will have a home meet on Wednesday against Northridge. The weather looks to be a lot better than last week - it is a great opportunity to improve your marks in order to qualify for the region championships.

Davis Invitational - Saturday, April 27: This week is one of the biggest weeks of the season for our program as we prepare for next Saturday's Invite. We will have a lot to do. It is very important that you all attend every day this week and that you are on time and that you know what will be required of you. On Monday we will go over who will be competing at the Invite (there are qualifying standards). On Thursday we will be reviewing jobs for the Invite, and on Friday we will be doing the final field preparations. Everyone on the TEAM is required to help with the Davis Invite. I know there are a few of you who will be out of town, and a few who are involved with Moonlight Serenade, etc. We ask that you still do your best to help out. If any of you who are in the track class who are low on letter points (because of attendance), helping all day Saturday at the Davis Invite is a great way to earn some of your grade for 4th term back. This looks to be one of the greatest Davis Invites ever - but it is going to take a full TEAM effort to pull it off successfully.
*If there are any parents or former athletes who are comfortable helping to run field events, we could use a little more help on Saturday with the field events.
*We will also be asking the athletes to sign up to bring food for the coaches/sponsor luncheon on Saturday. We will pass around sign up sheets on Monday and Tuesday. We really appreciate your help with the luncheon. Coach Jamie West is in charge of that luncheon. It is one of the things that makes the Davis Invite so unique. In case you have any questions or would like to offer some help, Coach West's number is 801-721-0333

I am going to ask a lot of this TEAM over the final four weeks of the season. Please be committed to doing your best as we compete, in practice, and as we put on some of the best meets in the state. Take pride in being part of Davis Track & Field. Continue to be positive in any circumstances - through weather, injury, illness, and any other challenge you might face. These last four weeks, I would like to see everyone really focusing on doing their individual best and on contributing what they can to the TEAM. In these final meets - the Davis Invite, BYU Invite, Region, and State - the success of this TEAM is going to be based on your attitudes, your unity, and your determination.

Thanks
Coach Talley
