Track Update - Davis Invite

Darts -
Saturday was incredible. We challenged you to put on the best track meet of the year, and that is what you did. I was so impressed with all of your hard work and your attitudes throughout the day. It was truly one of the greatest Davis Invites of all-time. I especially want to thank those of you who were there all day, working and competing. I know it was a long day, but the end result was something special.
We had some monster PRs and some very outstanding performances. It would be difficult to name them all, but I thought I would point out a few highlights - The boys medley team (Jake Moffet, Ty Hinds, Jordan Goldsberry, and Logan MacKay) set a new STATE RECORD with 3:29.85 - breaking the state record set by Bingham way back in 1996. Josey Hedquist won the invited 800 on total determination to race through the finish line - she got the victory by .02 with a lean. Matt Calvin stayed strong through the rain to become the Invited Champion in the pole vault. Hunter Simonsen had a phenomenal jump to clear 6'08 and pick up an invited victory. Jaron Erickson had a major PR and just missed 1st place in the hurdles with 14.55. Palmer Flood also had a big PR in the 300s (48.60) to grab 2nd place. Dallin Baires picked up two 2nd place invited medals and had a 2 foot PR in the shot put (52'00). Paige Erickson cleared 10'03 to finish 3rd in the pole vault. Jordan Barnett had a very solid 45.4 in the 300 Hurdles to finish 2nd. Sophomore, Jonny Thornton finished 2nd place in the long jump with a PR (after winning the open high jump). Our girls 4 x 400 relay teams finished 1st and 2nd (first time that has ever been done in the Davis Invite). The A-Team ran 4:01 and the B-Team was not far behind in 4:06. And both our girls and our boys 4 x 800 teams picked up the victories in the rain to end the meet. Our newest additions to the state qualified club include: Whitney Cox (High Jump), Jonny Thornton (High Jump), Logan Baird (High Jump), Kelton Johnson (300 Hurdles), BriAnna Gipson (400m), Josh Ward (1600m), Nikki Hemsley (Pole Vault), Madi Lee (Pole Vault), Johanna Nilsson (Pole Vault), Jaxon Potter (Pole Vault), and Justin Godfrey (Pole Vault) - we now have a record 12 girls and 7 boys qualified in just the pole vault.
There is a HUGE list of people to thank: John Lingard and his wife for the help with the luncheon, Abby Frodsham and Jessica Paget for rocking the results, Chelsea and Brooks Running for bringing the prizes and making it a better meet, Caitlin Miller for her help at the Brooks tent, Michelle Wilson for always handling the bull-pen to perfection, Amber Anderson for stepping in as clerk of course at the last minute and nailing it, Preston Parrish for being our vigilant meet referee (we miss you, Preston!), Jay "vanilla voice" Welk for coming back to announce, our professional starters (Gary and Zach), Alan Hansen for always letting us use his weighmaster, Dan Hayward for stepping in at high jump, Jen Beard for being so amazing once again at the long jump, Carrie for being the best track trainer in the state, all of our incredible sponsors (record $6300), Coach Roger Buhrley for all the advice and help, Coaches from other teams who helped in many ways, so many parents who brought canopies and food and helped wherever we needed, all of you incredible athletes for stepping up in the way you performed and especially in working the meet - I can't say enough about how impressed I was (and tons of other coaches were) with your heart and teamwork yesterday, and last but not least - our outstanding coaches who have done so much for all of us this season and have sacrificed so much time and energy to make the Davis Invite what it is: Jeff Agnello, Brad Anderson, Shawna Cox, Paul Timothy, Ben Jacobsen, Ashlee Cannon, Matt Williams, Tony Hill, Spencer Betker, Justin Beard, Natalie McKinley, and Tyson Bullock - we are seriously lucky to have these great people in our lives!!

Coming Up:
Wednesday (4/29) - Northridge @ Davis - This is the last chance for region qualifying. Some of you are very close to qualifying in your events, but need to go after a PR on Wednesday to make it happen. For current region rankings, go to http://regiononetrack.blogspot.com/ The top 18 marks are automatically qualified, and then each school gets to pick 3 entries per event in addition to the top 18. The other schools will also have athletes trying to improve their marks on Wednesday.

Friday-Saturday (5/1-5/2): BYU Invitational - We will have a list of those competing at the BYU Invitational at practice today. We are only allowed 25 total entries for boys and 25 for girls. More information will be sent out on Thursday. Only those competing on Friday will be checked out of school.

Wednesday-Thursday (5/6-5/7): REGION CHAMPIONSHIPS - We would like the entire team to attend on both Wednesday and Thursday (even if you are not competing). We will not be able to finalize the entries until next Monday night, but we should have a good idea of who will get in after this week's dual meets. More information to come.

Our best performances are still to come. I can't stress how important your mental and physical preparation is over the final 19 days of this season. Get your rest, proper nutrition (fuel) and hydration, put in a few more hard workouts, and be excited and confident about every practice and every meet we have to come.

Thanks!
Coach Talley
