Dart Track Update - April 1

Darts -
We had an extremely busy week, and I am sure that you are all well-deserving of the spring break coming up. We will be having practice on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, but I also want you to use this week to rest physically and mentally so that when we come back after spring break for our final 6 weeks of the season, that you are ready to work hard and compete our very best.

District Championships - We were TEAM champions for both the boys and the girls at Syracuse High on Tuesday and Wednesday. The girls scored a team record 278 points to get the win over 2nd place Woods Cross (98), 3rd place Viewmont (86), and 4th place Syracuse (60). We had individual championships from Sylvia Harrison (100m and 100m hurdles), Ellie Child (800m and 1600m), Chelsey Johnson (3200m), Christine Van Brocklin (300m hurdles), Michelle Clark (Javelin), Jessica Richardson (Discus), and all 4 of our relays finished in 1st place. The boys scored 223 points to for the win over 2nd place Syracuse (163.5), 3rd place Woods Cross (99), and 4th place Bountiful (80). The boys had individual 1st place finishes from Seth Fortin (100m), Trevor Leavitt (200m), Jackson Sagers (1600m), Andrew Aposhian (3200m), Marcus Daley (long jump), Jeff Whittaker (Javelin), and the boys 4 x 800m relay team set a new meet and school record with a time of 7:54 - anchored by a 1:52.3 split from Brad Nye. Overall, it was a great meet for us this early in the season. We showed a lot of toughness and competitiveness, and our team was as excited, supportive, and unified as we have ever been. It was really fun to be a part of. Full results can be found at http://results.runnercard.com/Results/results.jsp?meetid=3918

UHSTCA Championships (at Taylorsville) - The TEAM also traveled down to the Coaches Meet on Saturday. It was a hot, dry, windy day - with the wind reaching 30 mph through most of the afternoon. Despite the unfavorable conditions, our TEAM once again showed toughness and positive attitudes. The girls won the coaches meet by scoring a total of 119. Copper Hills was 2nd with 91, Riverton 78, Orem 76, and Bingham 70. The boys scored 90 points and finished 2nd to Riverton (103), Syracuse was 3rd with 81. Although we were not full strength - we were missing a few key scorers, and we didn't put boys or girls in all of their events - Riverton and Syracuse will be going after us all season long. They are going to give us major challenges at BYU, Region, and State. We had individual 1st place finishes from Sylvia Harrison (100m dash), Adelyn Jones (100m Hurdles), Christine Van Brocklin (300m Hurdles), the girls 4 x 100 team (Jones, Carling, Anderson, Harrison), the girls medley relay team (Harrison, Carling, Van Brocklin, Martinez), Brad Nye (1600m), and the boys medley relay team (Green, Leavitt, Sagers, Nye), and a lot of other strong performances on a tough day. Spring Break - We will be meeting as a TEAM to workout on Monday-Wednesday (Distance Runners at 8:00am, Everyone else at 9:00am). And the weight room will be opened on Thursday at 9:00am. I have attached the spring break schedule. If you are not going to be in town, please try to workout and keep your fitness maintained. Be creative if you don't really have a track to run on. Find a hill to run on, do ab workouts, pushups, and whatever else you can do to keep yourselves strong.
25 of the Davis athletes are going to the Arcadia Invitational in California at the end of spring break. It is one of the most prestigious track meets in the U.S. I will give a full report in next week's email.

Coming Up:
April 10 - TEAM Pictures - Bring your uniforms
April 11 - Davis @ Weber 3:00pm
April 18 - Layton @ Davis
April 20 - Woods Cross Invitational
April 25 - Davis @ Northridge
April 28 - Davis Invitational

Thanks for all that you are doing. Thanks for being a TEAM and for working so hard together. Keep up the good work,
Coach Talley
