I wish I had more time to express my gratitude for all of the help and support that we received for the Davis Invitational. I got quite emotional today in track class as I talked about it. I apologize for being so emotional over a track meet - but it really was more than that. As I said, it was a challenging day for me, but I really felt the support of a great staff, some remarkable parents, and the best TEAM I could ask for. I definitely felt uplifted and strengthened by each of you, and I was so proud of all of your hard work and of the way you performed in the track meet and in running the track meet. Many thanks for your sacrifices, your time and efforts, and your positive attitudes and hard work throughout the past week.
There really were some phenomenal performances: Brad Nye with a meet, stadium, and 5A state record in the 1600m (4:09.69), Ellie Child with 4:59 1600, Shea Martinez right behind her with a 5:05, Trevor Leavitt with a 49.37 400m, our girls 4 x 400 with a 3:57 and girls 4 x 100 with a 48.90, Jeff Whittaker with a 178' javelin throw, Jacob Ferrell with a state qualifying javelin throw in his first meet back, Kaylee Brown with a 113 foot discus throw, Sylvia Harrison with three second place finishes, Adelyn Jones with a season best 15.01 100 hurdles for 1st place, Christine Van Brocklin with another strong pr in the 100 hurdles (15.13), Skylar Williams and Alex Hedquist with 4:19 and 4:20 in the 1600, Brayden Cromar with a big 3200m win in 9:26, Bailey Carling with a 12.76 100m dash, Seth Fortin with two great 3rd place finishes, Taylor Cox with a 2:18 800m pr, and a number of other strong performances and personal bests. I really need to thank a few people who have been extra helpful over the past week and especially on Friday night and Saturday (sorry if I miss you) - Brad, Lauren, Coach Parrish, Coach Agnello, Coach West, Alayna, Zach, Rob, Coach Welk, Tara, Abby, Dan, Seth & Amelia, Jessica, Aaron, Spencer, Cameron, The Tyndalls, Dave King, John Lingard, Mark, Kayla & Tyson, and nearly all of the Davis athletes who really stepped up and made it happen. Also a special thanks to all the parents who got involved and were able to send food or help with the luncheon. It was a huge success. And thanks to the alumni who stopped in and did their best to help--I felt bad that I was not in a position to talk with you more, and I was not in a position to figure out where I needed you most - but it meant a lot to me and the program that you were all so willing to stop by and see what needed to be done.
Our TEAM is in a good position coming off of the Davis Invitational. We have a few challenges in front of us (specifically not having a track to work out on), but we are going to face those challenges with toughness and with positive attitudes. Continue to do your best - continue to stay hungry and passionate about what we are doing - continue to work as a TEAM. We are ready for the most important part of the season. This is what we have been working for. Let's show the rest of the state what the Darts are made of at the BYU Invite, Region, and State. It will take more than just those competing, it will take the energy and support of the entire TEAM. If you feel like you have not been involved enough in what we have had up to this point, get involved. Be at the region meet whether you qualify or not - and plan on coming down to the state championships on May 18-19 and being part of the best cheering squad there. Let's finish this season as a TEAM.
Coming Up:
Dual Meet @ Fremont - The meet will begin at 3:00pm and we will get back to the school around 6:30. The bus leaves at 1:30 - all those not in the track class are excused at 1:15. As this is our last full TEAM meet, we would like everyone to attend - and if possible for all to ride on the buses both ways. Some of the athletes competing at the BYU meet will not be competing at Fremont, but we still want you out their cheering on your teammates. The schedule will run about the same as the past few Wednesday meets with the 3200 at the first of the meet for both the girls and the boys.
Region Rankings - posted at www.regiononetrack.blogspot.com - to qualify for the region meet, you will need to be in the top 30 or so from your event. Some of the people listed in the events will scratch, but if you are close, do everything you can on Wednesday to improve your marks.
