Track Update #10 - REGION CHAMPIONS!

Darts
I have to say this was one of the most fun and exciting Region Championships I have been a part of. The TEAM has worked hard for this all season long, and it showed in our performances. I was most impressed with the excitement that you showed for your teammates as they had prs or qualified for state in their event. We truly showed that we are a TEAM on both the boys' and the girls' side. As Coach West and I watched the team lap and the Dart Cycle both days, we couldn't help but comment on how incredible it was to see so many of you there and on how proud we are to be part of this program. You have shown commitment, enthusiasm, and TEAM work all year, and now we have two region championships as a result. For most of the TEAM this was the final meet of the season. For many of the seniors it was their final meet of their Davis High Track & Field careers. It has been an honor and a privelege to work with you seniors. I have learned from your positive attitudes and from your struggles and successes. Thanks for giving your time and thanks for putting so much heart into making our TEAM what it is. I can't capture what you have meant to our team in an email, but I hope that you know that we are so grateful for all that you have done. I hope that the sophomores and juniors will continue the traditions and the attitude that you have brought to our TEAM. Thanks.
I have listed all of the Davis results below, and full results can be found at www.regiononetrack.blogspot.com. Some of the highlights of the meet for me included: Winning 6 out of 6 relays with the boys and girls combined - it showed our depth, and it was capped off by an awesome run in the boys 4 x 400 to end the meet. The distance runners working together to sacrifice for each other in order to get teammates into the state meet giving us a total of 11 boy entries in 3 distance races at state (5 in the 800, 2 in the 1600, and 4 in the 3200) and 13 girl entries in 3 distance races at state (4 in the 800, 4 in the 1600, and 5 in the 3200). Tony Hill making it to state in his first time throwing the javelin this year, and Spencer Betker (sophomore) coming through with some strong throws in the jav to make it. Kristin Burton qualifying for state in the discus after 3 years of hard work. The boy high jumpers feeding off of each other and finishing with 5 guys hitting the state qualifying mark of 6'02. Dalton Facer really getting after it in the 300 hurdles to have a 1 second pr and place 5th - qualifying for state. Derek Gallacher's comeback season after a lot of injury to run 2:00 in the 800 and finish 2nd. Meghan Hedquist running right with Emily Hansen to push Em to finish 5th and qualify for state. Kyler Sprague's 3 first place finishes with 3 prs on the final day. Altogether the girls scored 169 points to finish first by 58. The boys scored an incredible 260 points (highest score in at least the past 6 years) to win by 142. We also have 38 boy entries into the state meet (not including all three relays) and 28 girls entries (not including relays). It is going to be one exciting state championships for the Darts.

We have just two meets left:
Sophomore Region - Tuesday, May 12, 3:00 pm @ Fremont High. We will be sending a bus with all the sophomores. You are also welcome to compete if you are a junior or senior who did not make it into the region meet in your event. It is a great time to end the season with some prs. We would also like to see the boys and the girls come home victorious.

State Championships - Friday and Saturday, May 15-16. Friday begins at 7:30 am with the girls 1600m. Saturday begins at 8:00 am with the girls 3200m run and the boys shot put. We will be handing out a schedule this week with the times and who is competing in each event. We will also be taking a bus down both days. It will leave the school at 6:30 am on Friday (coming back around 6:00pm), and at 7:00am on Saturday (coming back around 6:00pm). We would like everyone to come down both days even if you are not competing - you will be excused from school on Friday. We want to be the loudest TEAM there. I will give out more details this week. Let me know if you have any questions.
