Davis Track Update/Alumni Meet

Darts -
The track season is about to get underway - we have the alumni meet this Friday, and then we are hosting the Super Meet next week Tuesday and Wednesday. After that the season is going to fly by. There will be plenty of time to work hard and improve and set PRs, but I am always surprised at how quickly the season flies by. Take advantage of every opportunity to challenge yourself and to enjoy your track experience. I think one of the best things about track & field is the satisfaction that comes from working hard and doing your very best. The workouts have been very solid to begin with. I am sure that some of you are sore and probably tired at times, but it will all be worth it in the end. Keep coming to practice with energy and excitement, stay positive in every situation, and keep pushing yourselves and your teammates.

New Balance Indoor Nationals - Brayden Cromar and Brad Nye both competed last weekend at the New Balance Indoor Track Nationals last weekend. I know that most of you know how it went, but for those of you who hadn't heard, both athletes came home as All-Americans. Cromar finished 5th place in the 5000m with a time of 14:56. It was a new Davis indoor school record, and he was the top junior in the race. He ran a very tough, smart race with mile splits of 4:45, 4:49 (9:34 at 3200m), 4:49. Dallin Farnsworth from Pocatello, ID traveled to New York with us and he also ran the 5000m and finished 2nd with a 14:37. You can watch Brayden's race at https://www.newbalance.com/facebook/indoor-nationals-2012/footage.php?app_data=IwdVCBLoZaU
Brad ran an incredible race to finish as the National Champion in the mile with a time of 4:08.67. It is our school record (breaking his own record) and the 2nd fastest ever run by a Utahn. Brad ran patiently through 1400m of the race and then outkicked the favorite, Edward Cheserek, over the final lap of the race. It was one of the most exciting races I have ever seen. You can watch Brad's race at

Alumni Meet - Is this Friday, March 16 beginning at 3:15. We would like to invite any alumni who would like to compete to show up and give it your best shot. We will score the meet with 4 teams: Sophomore/Freshmen, Juniors, Seniors, and Alumni. The meet will be over at around 6:00pm. If there are any alumni or parents who would like to help in officiating the meet, please let me know. We could use some help in measuring field events and at the finish line.

Uniforms - we will hand out uniforms at Thursday's practice. You will receive a uniform if you have turned in your eligibility papers.

Eligibility Papers - if they are not in at this point, they are very late. Get them to me ASAP.

Saturday/Monday - We WILL NOT have practice on Saturday. Run really hard on Wed-Fri so that you deserve the rest. Distance runners will meet at the school at 8:00am on Saturday for a 60 minute distance run. We WILL practice on Monday at 2:00pm even though there is no school. It will be a very important practice in preparation for the Super Meet.

Davis Super Meet - Will be next Tuesday and Wednesday (March 20-21). The girls will compete on Tuesday and the boys will compete on Wednesday. The boys will be in charge of running the girls events and the girls will be in charge of running the boys events. Not everyone will be able to compete in every event they would like because it is a state qualifying meet with many teams attending. There will be qualifying standards. We will email and post the schedule and entries on Monday. We will need everyone's help, so please plan on staying until the end both days (about 6:30).

Athletes of the Week: Brad Nye, Brayden Cromar

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks for all your hard work,
Coach Talley
