Track Update - Alumni Meet

Darts -
It was another great week of workouts capped off by one of our most successful Alumni Meets ever. We are starting the season with a lot of energy and we (the coaches) are excited about what we are seeing in practice. We have a lot of work in front of us, and we need to continue to focus on a few things: staying healthy, being more unified, being more confident, and working hard to improve our fitness and technique. Don't settle for how you performed at the alumni meet - work hard and have a lot of desire to improve and to be better. We get another chance to test ourselves on Wednesday at West High.

Alumni Meet - We had some great participation and some outstanding performances at the Alumni Meet on Friday. It was a very close battle in the team competition. Before our traditional adjustments, the seniors blew the field away with 479.5 points, the juniors were 2nd with 321, the alumni were 3rd with 178, and the sophomores still scored a solid 170 points. After the adjustments (Juniors x 1.5, Sophomores x 2.0), the juniors squeaked ahead by 2 points - 481.5 to 479.5. It was a good showing for all grades though. We truly have one of our best ever senior classes for the boys and the girls, but we also have some strong juniors and sophomores who are going to help us this year and in the future. Thanks to all of you who helped out in any way - especially parents and our crew of injured athletes who stepped in to help run the events.

Wednesday @ West High - We have our first region 2 track meet of the season on Wednesday. It is at West High School in Salt Lake City. Those of you not in the track class will be excused at 1:15. The buses are leaving at 1:30 - we are taking 5 buses. The track meet will start at 3:00. Everyone is required to go down on the buses and come back on the buses. You will need special permission to go down or come back with your parents. I will send out an email on Monday or Tuesday with the schedule and any other details. The pole vault competition will be held at Davis on Monday and Tuesday (girls on Monday - boys on Tuesday) because West High does not have pole vault pits.

Track Apparel - The apparel from the first order has begun to arrive. We will hand out what we have this week - hopefully everything will be here by the end of the week. The 2nd apparel orders are due by Friday (March 18). You need to pay in the office and staple your receipt to your order form and then turn in your order form to me by the end of the week. The order form is attached to this email. Parents are welcome to order any of the items for themselves. There will not be a 3rd order.

Weather - We've been pretty fortunate so far, but it looks like this week is going to be slightly colder and we will probably see some rain as well. It is a great opportunity for us to prepare for any type of weather later in the season. Make sure you are dressed appropriately - especially for the warm ups. Sprinters, Hurdlers, and Jumpers should be in long tights when the temperature is in the 40s (this week). Everyone should be in warm clothes for your warm up and in between events on Wednesday at the meet.

Davis Super Meet - We have our first state qualifying track meet on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week (March 22-23). There will be 12 schools at the meet. The girls will compete on Tuesday while the boys run the meet, and the boys will compete on Wednesday while the girls run the meet. You will all be assigned jobs for the day you are not competing. This is one of 3 big meets that we host this season (Super Meet, Davis Invite, and the Region Championships). We definitely take pride in putting on a good track meet, and it will take everyone working together to get it done. More info to come.

Eligibility - A small group of you have not quite finished the eligibility steps. Please get those done as quickly as possible. 1) www.registermyathlete.com; 2) physical turned in; 3) pay the $90 participation fee; 4) turn in the drug test consent form (I have copies of these); 5) Make up all of your 'U's and have above a 2.0.

Congratulations to former Dart, Shea Martinez (BYU) on her 5th place finish in the 800m at the NCAA Championships yesterday - earning 1st team All-American.

Upcoming Schedule:
March 16 - Davis @ West
March 22 - Girls Super Meet @ Davis
March 23 - Boys Super Meet @ Davis
March 28-April 2 - Spring Break
April 5-6 - Davis District Championships @ Syracuse

We are off to a great start. Stay hungry and committed, take good care of your bodies, and focus on improving your marks with each opportunity.
