Track Update - Region Champs!!!

Darts -
We have a very busy week in front of us. This email will go over the Region Championships (last week), Uniform Turn in (3 chances), Sophomore/JV Region (Tuesday), the District Championships (Wednesday), the State Championships (Friday and Saturday), and the TEAM BBQ/Awards Banquet (5/26)...

Region Championships - We had two incredible days at the Region Championships on Wednesday and Thursday. Both the boys and the girls won the region titles. It was the 10th in a row for the boys, and (we think) the 20th in a row for the girls. We saw some amazing individual performances, and it was our best TEAM effort of the year (so far). Thank you to all those who helped and all those who stayed and supported their team - even when you were not competing. Thank you to all of you who put so much heart and effort into this meet (and into the season).
The girls more than doubled 2nd place Syracuse (283-136) and we scored in every single event. Our highest scoring event was the 800m where we scored 32 of the 39 points (top 8 finishers). The girls also scored 27 in the high jump and 26 in the 400m. We scored all of those points with only 3 individual champions - Melanie Sullivan (400m), Courtney Wayment (800m), and Korra Jensen (high jump). It really shows our TEAM depth and teamwork. We also won all 3 relays. Our new state qualifiers include: Becky Swanson (300 Hurdles), BriAnna Gipson (200m), Ally Geisler (400m), Brittney Rounkles (400m), Miah Weaver (800m, 1600m, 3200m), Jenna Connell (800m, 1600m), Sam Hedquist (3200m), Grace Neuenschwander (3200m), Katie Fielden (pole vault), Ashley Harris (High Jump), Mary Page (Shot Put and Discus), Kathryn Wilde (Shot Put), Alicia Stucki (Javelin), Katelyn Hoskins (Javelin). Giving us a grand total (and new team record) of 47 state qualifying marks for the girls.
The boys scored a new team record, 306 points on their way to the title. It was also a very well-balanced attack as we scored in every event and won 2/3 relays. The hurdlers led the way with 30 points in the 300 hurdles and 28 points in the 110 hurdles. Our pole vaulters scored 27 points, and we scored 25 points in both the 100m dash and the 3200m run. The boys had 7 individual championships - Jaron Erickson in the 110 and 300 hurdles, Jake Moffett in the 100m and 200m, Matt Calvin in the pole vault, Logan MacKay in the 800m, and Xakai Harry in the javelin. Logan's 800m race was probably the highlight of the entire meet. He definitely got after it! His time of 1:49.77 is the first time a Utah high school boy has gone under 1:50 (he was the first one under 1:51 at Woods Cross Invite). It is also the #5 time in the U.S. in a very competitive year. And it was a great display of determination, strength, and focus. He has worked hard for that time. Probably 2nd to that was the victory in the javelin from Xakai Harry - it was only his 3rd time throwing the javelin and he set a 50 foot PR with a monster throw of 172 feet. Xakai is just a sophomore and also placed in the long jump. Our newly state qualified boys include - Alex Cottam (100m and pole vault), McGyver Clark (200m, 400m), Bryce Ferguson (800m), Frasier Williamson (800m, 3200m), Camren Todd (1600m), Brigham Halverson (1600m), Josh Peters (3200m), Colton Rimann (3200m), Caleb Kamalu (300h), Andrew Simonsen (300h), Taylor Southwick (300h), Austin Hansel (pole vault), and Jonny Thornton (high jump). Bringing our total on the boys side to 48 state qualifying marks - also a TEAM record.

District Championships (Junior High) - Wednesday @ 2:30 at Davis. We are in charge of the District Championships this year. We will need help with all the field events and the normal track and gate crew jobs. Plus it would be good if you can be there to cheer on and support future Darts. I will be excusing some people at 1:30 to get us set-up and started, the rest of you should come right out after school. Only those going to state will workout this day.

State Championships - Friday & Saturday @ BYU - We are very excited for State this year. I hope that all of you will consider attending (even if you are not competing). We will have a Friday excuse list passed around during practice this week. Sign up if you would like to come down on Friday and support your teammates. We want to have the loudest, most supportive TEAM at the state championships once again this year. It is a long 2 days - you will want to bring clothing for all kinds of weather, food, money for more food, and a lot of energy. I will send out another email with more details on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Friday - Bus Leaves at 6:30am; returns to Davis at 9:00pm
Saturday - Bus Leaves at 6:30pm; returns to Davis at 10:00pm after dinner

*State Dinner - We will have a TEAM dinner for those competing at State on Wednesday night at 6:00 at Shawna's house (after the junior high district championships). We will need some parents to help and we will need some athletes to bring salads (fruit or green) and breadsticks. Send me an email if you are a parent who would like to help with the pasta or if you can bring/send a salad or breadsticks. Thanks!

*State Meeting - Thursday at 2:30pm in my classroom - for all those competing. Mandatory.

TEAM BBQ/Awards - Right now our TEAM BBQ is scheduled for Thursday, May 26th at 6:00pm at Barnes Park (After the Barnes Park Senior Party). Could seniors on the team let me know if that will cause a conflict with Seminary Graduation or anything else. Back up date is Friday, May 27th at 6:00pm.

Let's finish with everything we have.
Thanks!
Coach Talley
